Basic Info
The population of Morocco is estimated in 2013 at 35 million. The majority of Moroccans are of Arab-Berber descent, they might not speak the Berber language. Another part of Moroccans identify themselves as Arabized Berbers or simply as Arabs, mostly based on them speaking Moroccan Arabic and/or not being able to speak Berber. Some of them believe they have an Arab descent from the Arabian Peninsula or the Levant. Some Moroccans believe to be of mixed Arab-Berber descent or of Berber-Arab-Andalusian ancestry.
Morocco is currently in stage 3 of the DTM. Birth rate is decreasing and stabilizing. Death rate is decreasing although still high, rapidly decreasing from 2013. No significant baby booms or sudden loss of age groups, mostly because of few wars. Pretty clear shape, rough triangle with an extension on the bottom symbolizing the high birth rate.
population growthPopulation growth has been high and low over the past 20 years, but has finally found a suitable position for Morocco's carrying capacity. Population growth has these contributing factors:
|
Morocco is starting to stabilize after a rapid increase and decrease in population the last 20 years. Morocco has finally figured out that even though having more population makes you seem like a bigger threat, its only a threat to yourself. Famine and disease have become only a problem for the un-wealthy, and the un-wealthy are few and fewer every year.
Effect of populationMorocco's population has little no effect on food, water, jobs, or any natural resource. Most of this probably has to do with the abundance of resources. Water availability seems to be starting to become a problem, but action is being taking with the Morocco Water Sector Projects.
